Snowflake Data Architect | Banking & Financial Services in Sofia
Workster is partnering with a leading global technology and professional services firm to recruit an experienced Snowflake Data Architect for its international Banking & Financial Services practice in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Join a diverse and collaborative data engineering and architecture team delivering cloud data platform solutions for major clients in banking, payments and financial services. In this role you will design, implement and optimise Snowflake-based data platforms, ensure secure and performant data pipelines, and collaborate with engineering, analytics and security teams to support data-driven initiatives and regulatory compliance.
Your Role
Lead the design and architecture of Snowflake data platforms and data warehouses to support analytics, reporting and operational use cases across banking and financial services
Define logical and physical data models, schema design patterns, and best practices for Snowflake (database objects, schemas, cloning, streams, tasks, zero-copy cloning)
Architect and implement data ingestion and transformation pipelines using ELT/ETL paradigms, leveraging Snowflake native features and preferred orchestration tools (e.g. dbt, Airflow, Matillion)
Design secure data access patterns and governance controls including role-based access, object tagging, data masking, dynamic data masking and integration with enterprise Identity and Access Management
Collaborate with cloud engineering teams on Snowflake account provisioning, networking, cost control, resource monitors and cloud storage integration (AWS S3, Azure Data Lake Storage, GCP)
Optimise query performance and storage costs through clustering, micro-partitioning, materialised views, result caching and appropriate sizing of virtual warehouses
Develop and enforce data quality, lineage and observability practices using metadata management, testing frameworks and monitoring tools
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers, analysts and platform engineers; conduct design reviews and code reviews
Support data migration and modernisation programmes, including lifting and shifting legacy data warehouses, consolidating data domains and enabling self-service analytics
Ensure solutions meet regulatory, compliance and security requirements relevant to banking and financial services (e.g. GDPR, local reporting, auditability)
Produce high-quality architecture artefacts, technical specifications, runbooks and operational documentation for stakeholders and support teams
Engage with client stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs and pragmatic implementation roadmaps
Your Qualifications
Proven experience as a Snowflake Architect or Senior Data Architect, with multiple end-to-end Snowflake implementations in production
Deep technical knowledge of Snowflake features and best practices, including storage, compute, micro-partitioning, clustering keys, streams & tasks, materialised views and time travel
Hands-on experience building ELT/ETL pipelines and data modelling for analytics using tools such as dbt, SQL, Python, Apache Airflow, Matillion or similar
Strong SQL skills and experience optimising complex analytical queries and workloads at scale
Familiarity with cloud platforms and integrations (AWS, Azure or GCP) and experience managing Snowflake deployments across cloud providers
Knowledge of data governance, security controls, encryption, masking and compliance requirements within banking and financial services
Experience with metadata, data lineage and observability tools (e.g. Collibra, Alation, Monte Carlo, Great Expectations) is advantageous
Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work in cross-functional and international teams
Relevant certifications (e.g. SnowPro Core, SnowPro Advanced) are a plus
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Fluent English (C1 or above); knowledge of Bulgarian is advantageous but not required
